Wisconsin Primary Care Programs
Ddesignated shortage areas- Wisconsin consistently ranks as one of the top states for the percent of the population that has health insurance coverage, usually ranked in the top five states. However, there are many rural and urban communities around the state where there are shortages of primary care, dental care, and mental health providers, which means people are more likely to postpone seeking care, have to travel greater distances to get care, or have long waiting times before medical appointments. The Wisconsin Primary Care Program coordinates a number of these programs through partnerships with federal programs, other state programs, health care providers, clinics, local health departments, and organizations that work with underserved populations.
